Authorities are investigating the mysterious death of Gifty Kyere, a 28-year-old final-year student at the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College, whose lifeless body was discovered in her boyfriend’s home in Jinijini, Berekum.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly distressing the victim’s family.
Pastor Kyere Jonathan, Gifty’s father and a senior cleric at Jinijini’s Agape Evangelical Church, revealed that his daughter had left home just a day before the tragedy after receiving her school fees and supplies.
He expressed profound dismay upon learning she had visited her boyfriend’s residence instead.
The prime suspect, 23-year-old Edmond Ayomah, remains at large but has reportedly communicated through intermediaries his intention to surrender to authorities.
Initial reports from Ayomah alleged that Gifty succumbed to an asthma attack and that financial constraints prevented him from seeking medical assistance.
However, investigative sources have disputed this claim.
Unverified reports suggest Ayomah may have coerced the deceased into terminating a pregnancy, a factor potentially linked to her untimely demise.
The Bono Regional Police Command has confirmed an active investigation into the case as they work to uncover the truth behind the tragic incident.
What must be done
The tragic death of Gifty Kyere, a 28-year-old nursing student in Jinijini, has highlighted several urgent issues that demand immediate attention from authorities and society.
First and foremost, law enforcement must expedite efforts to apprehend the prime suspect, Edmond Ayomah, and conduct a thorough investigation.
This should include a comprehensive autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, forensic analysis of the scene, and careful scrutiny of the suspect’s claims regarding the victim’s alleged asthma attack.
The police must also investigate the serious allegations that the deceased was pressured into terminating a pregnancy, which could significantly alter the course of the case.
