Members of the Ugandan community in the UK and back home are being warned about an alleged scam involving Shadrach Mukiibi Burtons, also known as Semakula.

Victims claim he has defrauded unsuspecting individuals of thousands of pounds through fraudulent UK visa processing schemes.

How the Scam Unfolded

According to testimonies, in 2023 Shadrach was introduced to a Ugandan family under the pretense of helping with UK visa paperwork. By early 2024, one victim had submitted all the necessary documents, including a language proficiency certificate from ECCTIS (UK), first aid training certification, medical (TB) certificate, and even a criminal record certificate from INTERPOL.

The victim trusted Shadrach to finalize the paperwork. However, despite multiple assurances and even traveling to Uganda based on his advice, the visa documents were never processed. Instead, the victim claims to have lost £3,900 (approximately UGX 19 million) with no refund forthcoming.

Alleged Pattern of Fraud

This is not an isolated case. Other Ugandans have reported similar experiences, with one UK-based woman also alleging that Shadrach owes her a substantial sum of money.

The scam reportedly follows a pattern: Shadrach requests large sums of money for visa paperwork and support services, provides excuses and delays, and ultimately fails to deliver. Victims are left stranded with financial losses and dashed hopes.

Who is Shadrach Mukiibi Burtons?

Shadrach is said to be based in the UK and associated with a care company named Atern Senior Care and Support Limited. Reports suggest that he resides at Flat 35, Impington, Willingham Way, Kingston Upon Thames, London KT1 3HZ.

Despite repeated demands from victims for refunds, he allegedly refuses to return the money, leading many to brand him a “certified scammer and liar.”

Protect Yourself from Visa Scams

Ugandans are urged to be extra vigilant when dealing with individuals or companies claiming to provide visa processing services. Here are some safety tips:

  • Verify credentials: Always cross-check with UK Home Office or licensed immigration advisors.

  • Avoid upfront payments: Be cautious about sending large sums before receiving official confirmations.

  • Do background checks: Research the person or company online for past complaints.

  • Use official channels: Apply for UK visas directly through the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) website or accredited agents.

Community Appeal

The Ugandan diaspora is being called upon to share this information widely to prevent more victims from falling into the same trap. Anyone with additional information about Shadrach Mukiibi Burtons or similar scams is encouraged to come forward and alert both community leaders and law enforcement.
