The National Unity Platform (NUP) has refuted allegations made by President Museveni that it cheated the 2021 polls by one million votes.
NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has written to President Museveni saying that he (Museveni) did not win the 2021 election and they (NUP) have evidence to prove so.
“The 2021 election—the culmination of a brutal military operation you waged against us throughout the presidential campaigns—is potentially the most rigged election in history. You know that you did not win that election. We have evidence to this fact,” Bobi Wine’s letter reads in part.
Bobi Wine says they ‘should’submit to a credible, transparent, and independent audit of the 2021 electoral process, conducted by a reputable international body, preferably the United Nations, and that they are ready to submit evidence to prove the amount of rigging that President Museveni allegedly engaged in.
The NUP president said should the results show that he rigged the election as President Museveni alleged, he should be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“Should the results of this audit prove that we engaged in any form of election rigging as you claim, we should be prosecuted in accordance with the law,” he added.
President Museveni said last week that he has evidence to prove that NUP rigged the 2021 polls by one million votes and that NUP should take him to court if he had falsely accused them.
“I have now got all the evidence that in the last election, NUP cheated by 1 million votes,” he said, adding, “NUP can take me to court and say Museveni falsely accused them.”.
President Museveni made the remarks on Wednesday last week during the memorial thanksgiving ceremony for the late Gen. Aronda, held at the Commonwealth Resort, Munyonyo.
Bobi Wine claims that Museveni did not only rig the 2021 polls but also rig the 2016 general polls. He has on several occasions accused President Museveni of vote rigging. However, Wine has also continued to encourage his supporters not to shan the electoral process.
